Drive-By
Honorable Daughter Number One (HDNO) was asked to the prom today. By a senior. To the senior prom. (She’s a junior). Apparently, the young man did a drive-by before asking. He spotted “Mom” on the front lawn, and kept on rolling. He called it in from around the corner.
“Mom” witnessed the drive-by and, of course, eavesdropped on HDNO’s end of the call:
HDNO~ “Hello?… You sure you want to do this?”
Isn’t it romantic? Life is not unlike an episode of Roseanne.
On Tuesday, HDNO goes for her driving test. Then, next year, it’s that expensive, four-year sleepover in some place like Vermont or Maryland.
The prom. Remember the prom? It’s all a powder blue haze to me now.

Hello. What? I can’t hear you. Neal Young’s new album just released on the internet is blasting in the background.
I totally want to get out my prom pictures now.

Surely that pic produced a bit of laughter from the daughter and mom. Prom pics are so, well, strange.
Congrats to the daughter, have fun, be safe.
Here from Michele.

Parents once being a child’s age does take a decade or few to get used to.

awwwwww that is SO sweet! have you and mom MET the young man yet? make sure you give him ‘the talk’ BEFORE the prom. just put a BIT of a scare into him……….. that IS what dads are for after all
i don’t remember my prom because i didn’t go. my friends and i did try to get in though but were thwarted. perhaps it had something to do with my silver spray painted construction boots……..

You’ll remember that the eventual wedding shots included Groucho glasses.~,:^)

Mr. Chili says - already, mind you, and our girls are only 9 and 7 - that there are rules to this sort of thing. Among them is this:
-”if you’re in my driveway honking, you’d better be dropping off a package because you sure as hell ain’t picking anything up”
When our first daughter was born, one of our very best friends gave him a copy of “Rules for Dating My Daughter.” He loves it.
